UK hardcore-meets-rock’n’roll upstarts State Of You have released a brand new anti anthem for the ages with their hard-edged single ‘The New Depression’.
It’s a theme that we can very much all identify with. As the band say: “’The New Depression’ is about the absolute shit show of the current economic climate and our visceral reaction to it.”
State Of You released their self-titled debut EP last year, featuring killer cuts Run, ‘The Perfect Storm’ and ‘Blood Party’. With plaudits from Metal Hammer, Rock Sound, Distorted Sound and more, the band really exploded out of the gates, also receiving radio play on the likes of Kerrang! Radio Fresh Blood.
With a shared desire to write straight-up rock ‘n’ roll songs, with the purpose of expelling personal demons, and to provoke discussion around issues in the world today, State Of You rose from the ashes of several much-loved underground UK bands including Outcry Collective, Polar and Hildamay. State Of You’s instant chemistry was apparent as soon as the five of them first convened in a practice space. The group only managed a handful of practices together before the pandemic hit and then kept their momentum going by sending ideas to each other online and discussing whilst simultaneously playing Call of Duty during lockdowns. With this unique way of working they amassed a whopping 40 song ideas, inspired by such artists as Every Time I Die, Cancer Bats, The Bronx, Beartooth and Underoath.
The band found a kindred audio spirit in Oz Craggs, of UK underground heroes Feed The Rhino, who has worked on production duties from the EP through to their new material.
Having toured with Young Guns and played a handful of their own shows already, State Of You are primed to show The Fighting Cocks in Kingston one hell of a time on 24th February 2024.
