Welcome Belmondo to the Silent Cult family!
Hailing from France, Switzerland and the UK, Belmondo are a cauldron of grunge, industrial styles wrapped in a goth aesthetic.
Their first offering for Silent Cult is crushingly captivating Bethlehem: ‘I’d just come home from a fight that’d tired me out emotionally. Initially I was trying to cram a big fuck you into a song, but it shape-shifted into a mystical outcry that became Bethlehem. It’s more personal than anything I’ve written, a confession that felt more like an exorcism, it’s overwhelming and cathartic and repressed on subjects like misplaced longing, exasperation and promiscuity. It has an ebb and flow to it like trance or 80s dark wave music does, but when it rises this huge wave of 90s sounding guitars washes over you. The phrase “I repent for the Blessed and the Evil” represents my remorses in either side. It’s the namesake of the EP and summarises the spirit of all four tracks. I see them both for what they are, and you can’t have one without the other, which in turn tells me they’ve always been one and the same.’ – Carmen Mellino (Vocals/Bass)
‘Bethlehem’ arrives with a David Lynch-like body horror-esque music video. Stunning and surreal, the urgency and fast-paced nature of the video unveil the darker side of desire, exploring chaotic and primal instincts, repressed emotions, and toxic love—revealing two sides of the same coin.
Belmondo’s debut EP ‘The Blessed and The Evil‘ will be released through Silent Cult in April 2024.
